Aileen H. Koski, , age 92, a former resident of Keweenaw Bay, Mi passed away on Friday, February 17, 2012 at the Shulstad Leisure Living Home in Baraga, MI following a long illness.

She was born December 3, 1919 in Chassell, MI daughter to John and Matilda (Pajara) Maatta. Following the death of her mother, she was raised by her foster parents, Adolph and Ida Hietala. Aileen graduated from Chassell High School in 1938. Aileen worked at the Hamar House in Chassell for a few years. She married Albert Koski on August 30, 1941. They owned and operated a dairy farm for thirty-four years. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last summer. Albert died on January 11, 2012.

She was a talented homemaker, known for her famous "nisu" and pies.

She was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Congregation of L'Anse.

She was preceded in death her parents; foster parents; husband, foster brother Ed Hietala; six brothers, Arthur, George, Sulo, Norman, William, and Elmer; four sister, Lyle, Esther, Helen, and Virgie.

Aileen is survived by three sons, Roger (Jan) of Keweenaw Bay, John (Anita) of Chassell, Gordon of Keweenaw Bay; two daughters, Helen (Jim) Urpila and Elaine (Jake) Jahfetson both of Keweenaw Bay; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Puffer and Lillian (Jo) Maatta; and numerous nieces, nephews.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, February 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse, with Rev. James Randell officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the Keweenaw Bay Fire Hall. The burial will be in the spring in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial be given to Baraga County Home Care & Hospice, the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery or to the First Apostolic Lutheran Congregation of L'Anse. Memorials in c/o Gordon Koski, 13859 Sturgeon Rd., Baraga, MI 49908.
