Alton (Babe) Harry Seid, age 88 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2015 at Hanson Hospice Center in Stevensville, MI.
He was born February 19, 1927 in Ontonagon, MI son of John and Ella (Erickson) Seid. Alton graduated from Rockland High School in 1944, received a Bachelor degree from Michigan State University and later a Master’s Degree. He served in the US Army during WWII. Alton married the former Jeanette (Geist) in 1950 in Ontonagon.
Those that knew him were blessed by his kind and gentle nature. He had a passion for teaching and spent his career teaching biology at L’Anse High School for over 25 years. He enjoyed meeting and talking with all of his former students when he was out and about in L’Anse.
Alton enjoyed gardening, golfing, camping and traveling with his wife over their 47 years of marriage. He was also an avid MSU basketball and Detroit Tigers baseball fan.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church, serving on several committees. He was a member of the American Legion in Rockland for over 60 years, and an active participant in the local chapter of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel.
Surviving are his daughter Mary (Terry) Johnson of Union, MI; two grandchildren, Molly and Tyler Johnson; nieces Nancy (Dennis) LaDuke, Stephanie (John) Klakulak and nephews John and Graham Spetz, and Jerry Seid.
Preceding him in death are his parents; wife Jeanette; infant son Joseph; siblings Rodney, Wallace, and Loretta Seid. Alton honored and kept their memories alive throughout his entire life.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 2nd at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church with Rev. Stephen Rhoades officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11:00 a.m. at the church. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Rockland with military rites by the Milton G. Preiss American Legion Post 92 of Rockland. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse is in charge of arrangements.
