Amelia Testen, age 95 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Friday, March 14, 2014 at Mather Nursing Center in Ishpeming, MI where she has been a resident since 2004.

She was born October 30, 1918, daughter to Martin and Mary (Spray) Venisnik. Amelia attended school in Cockerill, Kansas. She lived in Chicago for 16 years and worked at the Zenith factor; she married John Testen in 1953. Shortly after they moved to L’Anse to help manage the Testen family farm. She worked at the L’Anse Motel in housekeeping and then at the Hilltop as a dishwasher until retiring.

She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, St. Rita’s Circle, the SNPJ Yearling Lodge of 769, VFW Ladies Auxiliary 144, and AMVETS Ladies Auxiliary 122.

Amelia enjoyed baking and feeding people, gardening, playing cards especially the game 31 with friends and family, and writing letters and cards along with receiving them. She will be missed by many; especially her hugs and kisses.

Surviving are her son Terry (Debbie) Testen of Perrysburg, OH; daughter Judy (Jim) Smith of Ishpeming; 5 grandchildren, Emily, JoHanna, Sam, Kristen, Kevin; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; Aunt Mary Wohllford; husband John; brother Ludwig Venisnik; sisters Doris Notto, Marie Cremosnik; half-sisters, Lena, Tillie, Hanna, and Mary.

Visitation will be on Monday, March 17 th from 6-8 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, March 18 th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
