Andrew J. Gauthier, age 80 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Monday, February 09, 2009 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

He was born November 7, 1928 in L'Anse, son of the late Andrew and Lurmena (Foucault) Gauthier. Andrew graduated from L'Anse High School in 1946 and then went into the US Army. He married the former Shirley Kantola on September 22, 1950 at Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse. After returning from the service he graduated from Northern Michigan University with a Bachelor's Degree in teaching and later received his master's degree. Andrew taught Industrial Arts at Lake Linden High School prior to teaching wood shop at L'Anse High School were he taught for 26 years retiring in 1988.

Andrew was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Knights of Columbus, Eagles Aerie #2287, and the American Legion Post 144. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, carpentry work, and doing projects with his grand kids.

Surviving are his son Michael (Patricia) Gauthier of Baraga; daughter Andrea (Tom) Deschaine of L'Anse; sisters, Ann Marie "Betty" (Edgar) Martin of AZ, Phyllis (Homer J.) Dault of L'Anse; six grandchildren, Kimberley (Pat) Ketola of Ishpeming, Melynda (Mark) Dye of San Antonio, TX, Ryan Gauthier of Ishpeming, Thomas (Lisa Johnson) Deschaine of L'Anse, Laura Beth (Erik) Fenton of Baltimore, MD, Jacob Scott Deschaine of Houghton; four great grandchildren, Elise, Miles, Jude, and Courtney; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding him in death are his wife Shirley; son Francis Scott Gauthier; brothers Richard "Dick", Donald "Dan", Francis "Shorty" Gauthier; sisters, Rita Johnson, and Bernadette Evelyn Bowman.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, February 11th at Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse at 11:00 a.m. for both Andrew and his son Francis Scott Gauthier who died unexpectedly on Thursday, February 5th. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Augustin George will officiate. Burial will be held in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
