Ann Marie Denomie

April 27, 1937 — February 10, 2015

Ann Marie Denomie, age 77 of Baraga, MI, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, at Marquette General Hospital with her family by her side.

Ann was born April 27, 1937, in Ontonagon, MI, the daughter of Ruth Weisinger. She graduated from Ontonagon High School and later attended Finlandia University in the secretarial field. Ann married Lawrence James Denomie, Jr. on July 2, 1955, in Baraga.

In the 1970's, Ann worked at the Baraga Area Schools, worked for Michigan DNR as a secretary, and for the KBIC Tribal Center Maintenance Department. She was then a cook at the KBIC Ojibwa Seniors; made pasties and baked goods at the Keweenaw Berry Farm; and then she cooked and baked for the Bay Shore BP until retiring in 2008.

Ann was a member of Holy Name of Jesus Church. She played First Base with the Mission Road Fireballs and participated in league bowling. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, gardening, growing flowers, bird watching, card playing, and she also loved shopping and frequenting restaurants. Ann also was an avid hunter. She enjoyed raising her family, spending time with her grandchildren, caring for her numerous pets, working on the family farm, and peddling fish.

Survivors are her husband, Lawrence of Baraga; children: David, James "JD" (Dorothy Pryor), Robert (Lauri), Donald (Cheryl), Michael (Terri), Thomas, Lawrence III, Bruce, all of Baraga, Diane, and Debra (Brian) Williams of L'Anse; brothers: Tom (Joanna) Pestka, Norman Pestka, George Pestka, Jack Pestka, Butch (Laverne) Petska, and John Pestka, all of Ontonagon, MI; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; special friend Violet Krummi of Michigamme, MI, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death was her mother; daughter Dawn Louise Denomie; granddaughter Autumn Dawn Buehrle; brothers: Ron Pestka and Joe Pestka; and a sister Mary Jolift.

A memorial service was held on Monday, February 16, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. in the Ceremonial Room at the Ojibwa Senior Center, Baraga, MI. Deacon John Cadeau will officiate. The family received friends from 11 a.m. until service begins at 1 p.m. A luncheon followed the service at the Ojibwa Senior Center. The Jacobson Funeral Home assisted the family.
