Brian William Carlson (BC), aged 59, of El Paso, TX, passed away on April 3, 2023.
BC was born on September 9, 1963, in L'Anse, MI, to Theodore and Lempi (Korpi) Carlson. He graduated from L'Anse High School and commenced his distinguished military career with the US Army the day after his 18th birthday, serving during Desert Shield/Desert Storm and the Global War on Terror. After 20 years of dedicated service, BC retired from the Army in 2002. Shortly thereafter, he joined Homeland Security as a Customs K9 agent, faithfully continuing his service for another two decades. Throughout his 40 years of devoted service, BC specialized as a K9 Officer, training both K9 Officers and their handlers in drug detection, explosive detection, and "Find and Bite" techniques.
BC's commitment to his country extended beyond his professional life. He found joy in riding his Harley, spending precious moments with his family, and immersing himself in his passion for US history and westerns, especially those featuring John Wayne. BC was also an avid runner, completing the 2012 El Paso Marathon and the 2017 Bataan Memorial Death March 1/2 Marathon.
BC is survived by his oldest son and wife, Joshua and Miriam Carlson, their two children Nathaniel and Almira Carlson (Yigo, Guam), his daughter LaCygne Carlson (Omaha, Nebraska), and youngest son Forrest Carlson (Fairbanks, Alaska);
Brian was the 6th of 7 children. Besides his parents, Brian was preceded in death by two sisters; Phyllis (Rob) Koivu of L'Anse and Lillian (William) Rantala of Alston, three brother in laws; Jerry Holmstrom, Dale Koski, and William Rantala and a niece Denise Wentela Johnson.

Surviving are two sisters; Eileen (Koski) Holmstrom of L'Anse & Janice (Todd) Lukkari of Mass City. Two brothers: David (Doris) Carlson and Steve Carlson of Nisula.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 2nd, at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home, officiated by Edward Hulkonen. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Copper County Area Veterans will conduct military honors at 12:15 p.m. at the Nisula Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is responsible for the arrangements.
