Carol May (Velmer) LaFernier

Carol May LaFernier, age 87 of Keweenaw Bay, MI passed away on Friday, April 8th, 2022 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, MI.

She was born May 12, 1934 in Spalding, MI daughter of Lawrence and Irene (Poupore) Velmer. Carol attended school in L'Anse. She married Earl LaFernier on May 16, 1953 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse. Carol worked at a nurses aide at Winkler's and Bayside Village for over 25 years.

Carol enjoyed gardening, house plants, watching nature and birds, cooking, baking, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving are her children, Dale LaFernier of L'Anse, Kristine (Mike) Lofquist of L'Anse, Debra (Mark) Fuller of L'Anse, Robert (Janet) LaFernier of Skanee, Kevin LaFernier of L'Anse, Joe LaFernier of Keweenaw Bay; brothers, Bob (Shirley) Velmer of Baraga, Richard (Donna) Velmer of L'Anse; sisters, Patsy Velmer of Baraga, Rosemary (Bill) Heikkinen of Elo, many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her husband Earl LaFernier; son Kenneth LaFernier; daughter-in-law Susan LaFernier; sister Barbara Cline; brothers, Melvin, Joseph, Kenneth, and James Velmer.

Her funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 14th at11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Assinins Cemetery at a later date.
