Catherine E. Anderson

Catherine E. Anderson, age 96 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Shulstad's Leisure Living in Baraga.

Catherine was born October 23, 1914 in Franklin Mine, MI daughter to the late John and Vincenca (Crnkovich) Markovich. She grew up on a farm on the outskirts of L'Anse; later moving to Milwaukee and then Detroit.

She married John Gunnar Anderson on May 8, 1937 in Lansing. They lived in Dollar Bay until 1942 when they moved to Detroit and then to Cedar Rapids IA in 1956. Catherine moved back to Michigan and Bovine after her husband died in 1973.

Catherine was a member of Sacred Heart Church. She enjoyed playing pinochle, crossword puzzles, and reading. She also was a terrific cook. Over the years she held several jobs including as a cook in a deli and a pastry chef at a women's college.

Surviving are her daughters, Nancy (Elmer) Richardson of Arlington Hts, IL, Joan (Bruce Kinsey) Anderson of Maurertown, VA, Mary (Don) Tanner of Nelson, British Columbia, Debra (David) Peddycoart of Cedar Rapids, IA; son-in-law, Eric Tuttle of Fall Church, VA; 13 grandchildren, Cynthia, Valerie, Craig, Geoff, Jord, Daren, Forrest, Catherine, Frederic, Ann-Marie, John, Andrew, Paul; 23 great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband John Gunnar Anderson; daughter Carol Tuttle; and 8 siblings.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Church, 16 6th St., L'Anse, MI 49946 or Little Brothers-Friends of the Elderly, 527 Hancock Ave, Hancock, MI 49930.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Brian Gerber will officiate. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
