Charles Donald Eilola, age 78 of Askel, MI passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, MI.
He was born March 11, 1938 in Hancock, MI son of John and Agnes (Keranen) Eilola. Don graduated from John A. Doelle School in Tapiola. He married the former Nancy Hall and they resided in the Detroit area. He worked various jobs as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. In 1995 he moved back to Askel Hill.
Don enjoyed gardening and loved to share his crop with family and friends. He will be remembered for working in his garden in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon.
Surviving are his children, John Eilola of Keweenaw Bay, Christopher (Jamie) Eilola of Plymouth, MI, Loretta (Ed) Brinkman of Cedar Springs, MI; sisters, Helen Leinonen of Askel, Gloria Mathieu of Tapiola, Nancy Myllyla of Arnheim; grandchildren, Kelsey Taylor, Ava Eilola, and Adrienne Eilola; numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; son Curtis Eilola; brother Jackie Eilola; and sister Mae Eilola.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 10th from 12-2:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Elmer Liimatta officiating. Burial will be in the Askel Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse is assisting the family.
