Charles Otis Robinson

Charles O. Robinson, age 85 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital's skilled nursing unit.

Charles was born August 26, 1923 in Marshfield, WI son of Otis Ray and Fern (Hamilton) Robinson. He grew up in L'Anse and graduated from L'Anse High School in 1941. Charles married Miriam Rolof on June 25, 1945 at Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse. He was in the US Air Force, and flew over the Hump, India to China, during WWII and the US Coast Guard. After his time in the service he worked for American Airlines from 1943-81; living in Wayne, MI. In 1947 they moved to Washington DC where he worked at the National Airport, then moved back to work at Detroit Metro. Upon retirement they moved back to L'Anse.

Charles enjoyed reading and music. He was a former member of Kiwanis, past board member of the Credit Union in Wayne-Westland and was president of the board in 1977, St. Mary's Men's Club & lector in Wayne, former board member of Baraga county Credit Union, and former chairman of the board for Baraga county Memorial Hospital.

He is survived by his wife, Miriam Robinson of L'Anse; son Stephen (Heidi) Robinson of Brotow, Virginia; daughter Carla (Jeff) Straw of Traverse City, MI; sister Lois Monroe of Newark, Ohio; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents and a daughter Cecelia Soleau.

A funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 16th at 11:00 am at Sacred Heart Church in L'Anse. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Fr. Augustin George will officiate. Burial will be in the spring in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart School. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
