Daniel Joseph Archambeau, age 77, of Kenton, MI passed away on Monday, August 13, 2012 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 24, 1935 in Baraga, MI son of Joseph and Marie (Kaurala) Archambeau. Dan graduated from Baraga High School in 1954, went into the US Army for 4 years and was with the National Guard for 26 years. He received an Associate Degree from Wayne State University in Detroit. He lived locally while working for the Upper Peninsula Power Company for about 35 years, retiring in 1996.

Dan enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, camping, and building his log cabin in Kenton. He began running marathons in 1980 when he was 45 years old. By 1993 Dan had run a marathon in all 50 states and Washington D.C.. By 1998 he had run in all the Canadian Provinces. Nanasivik was his favorite marathon to run which he ran it at least 7 times, including a double marathon of 52 miles. By 2003 he had run a marathon on every continent, having completed a total of 200 full marathons before retiring from running. He cherished his close relationships with fellow marathoners around the world.

Surviving are his spouse Lois Brown of Kenton, MI; two daughters, Carol (Gerry) Deschaine of L'Anse, Michelle (Stuart) Francois of L'Anse; step children, Arin (Doug) Morton of Sebring, FL, John (Cathy) Brown of Kernersville, NC; brothers, Peter (Carol) Archambeau of Baraga, Treffles Archambeau of Florida; sisters, JoAnne Hansen of Deadwood, SD, Carol Hocking of South Range, MI, Frances (Rudy) Kastelic of Calumet, MI; grandchildren, Amanda Sparks, Lisa Deschaine, Jared Deschaine, Dominic Francois, Nathan Francois, Madeleine Morton, Maxime Morton, Abigail Brown; great grandchildren, Damon Paris, Andromeda Anderson, Nora Francois; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, August 17th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. by Deacon John Cadeau. The funeral mass will be on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Ann's Church in Baraga, with Fr. John Longbucco officiating. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery where Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites under the direction of the American Legion Post 444.
