Darlene Helen Elmblad

Darlene Helen Elmblad, 60 of L'Anse/Huron Bay passed away peacefully at BCMH on June 28th surrounded by her loving family & friends.

Darlene was the daughter of Harold (Bud) & Stella Hansen of L'Anse. Darlene was a member of the Golden Eagle drum & bugle corps. She worked at L'Anse Pharmacy during and after she graduated from L'Anse High school in 1971. She married Gary Elmblad of L'Anse on July 1, 1972. Darlene and Gary owned and operated Elm's market of Baraga, Skanee, and Mass City for many years. Gary and Darlene were active members of the community and were involved with community events such as the Baraga Fly in, Baraga County Fish and Frolic Ice festival, and numerous organizations, boards, and committees.

Darlene was an inspiration to many during her courageous 2 year battle with cancer. She lived more in the last 2 years than some live in a lifetime. She enjoyed many things in life, and among her favorites were classic cars with loud pipes, fast boats, airplanes, big trucks, air horns, and fishing. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery and was very creative with her skills. She helped start and continue the tradition of the Skanee Labor Day bridge walk. She was an avid angler and loved fishing and took great pride in out fishing her loving boyfriend John Hendrickson of Baraga whom she enjoyed life with canning, pickling, fishing, and cooking. She enjoyed participating in local fishing tournaments on "Henry's Hookers" team. She enjoyed flying, especially with her son.

Darlene was a selfless person who gave so much love and joy of life to so many people. She put others before her, and shared her zest for life with everyone who knew her. When you look up the word "Fun" in the dictionary, Dar's picture should be there. Dar was the essence of everything that is good in the world. She touched so many lives in a positive way.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband Gary Elmblad who passed away 5 years previous to the day, her father Harold Hansen and her beloved brother Gary Hansen and beloved Dachshund Oscar.

She is survived by her loving son Donald Elmblad, her special niece Sabrina Snyder & daughter Adelyn, special nephew, Brandon (Lauren)Snyder, loving boyfriend John Hendrickson, special friend Priscilla Ramjit, Mother Stella Hansen, brothers Harold "Mort" (Sally) Hansen and "Shakey" Joe (Corinne) Hansen, Sisters Mary Ann (Von) Moore, Cathy (Ray) Gazlay, Elizabeth "Boopie" (Bob) Snyder, special relatives Rod & Linda Olson, Dar & Les Elmblad, special friends Mary Groeneveld, Dean (Kim) Hendrickson, Mike (Janette) Hendrickson, numerous nieces & nephews, and many many friends and relatives.

At her request, a celebration of her life will be announced and held at a later date. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
