Dayton Earl Barnett, age 93 of Skanee, MI passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

Dayton was born on January 24, 1915 in Skanee, MI son of the late William and Sophia (Rylander) Barnett. He grew up in Skanee and attended the Skanee school. Dayton logged and did woods work for most his life. He also worked in the CC camps during the depression. Dayton spent his summers as a sailor on the Great Lakes for over 20 years, retiring in 1976. He was married to Bertha Wayrynen and then Siiri Kallio; who both precede him in death.

Dayton enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, William (Theresa) Barnett of Skanee, James (Janet) Barnett of Skanee; two daughters, Jean (Peter) Suomela of Aura, Miriam Paquet of L'Anse; two step sons, Ronald (Kathy) Kallio of Hancock, Paul Kallio of Michigan; one step daughter, Eleanor Bjerke of Colorado; one sister Pearl Marshall of L'Anse; 10 grandchildren; 9 step grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and one great great grandchild.

Preceding him in death are his step son David Kallio; brother Raymond Barnett; sisters, Alice Peltier, Gladys Eliason, Mayme Erickson, Hazel Loosemore, and Estelle Drouquet.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:00 AM at the Zion Lutheran Church in Skanee. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Pastor Judy Mattson will officiate. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family.
