Deborah Lynn (Sleep) Mantta, age 69, of Alston, Michigan, passed away on August 13, 2025, at U.P. Health System in Marquette after a long illness.
Born in downstate Michigan, Deb moved to the Upper Peninsula as a young teenager. She worked at her parents' country store until marrying at the age of 18. She spent a decade living out west before returning to Alston, the place she called home for the rest of her life.
Deb faced many years of back pain and underwent three hip surgeries, yet she met these challenges with remarkable perseverance and determination, living life fully until she could no longer.
A 1974 graduate of L'Anse High School, Deb enjoyed sewing, crafting, and camping in her younger years. She especially loved the color purple, which reflected her vibrant spirit.
She is survived by her partner of 17 years, Dennis Anderson; sisters Lynn Fedie and Verna Coulter; brother Brian Sleep; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Deb was preceded in death by her parents, Alton and Leona Sleep, and her brother-in-law, Roger Fedie.
She will be laid to rest in the Alston Cemetery. In accordance with her wishes, no formal services will be held. A celebration of life will be planned at a later date. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
