Dominic Joseph Durant Jr., age 61, of Zeba, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025. Born on January 22, 1964, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Dominic was a proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community whose life was deeply rooted in the land, water, and traditions of his people.
Dominic spent many years as a commercial fisherman, a trade that reflected both his love of the water and his connection to nature. He also worked in the logging industry alongside his uncles, where he learned the value of hard work and family. Most recently, he was employed at the Ojibwa Casino, where he brought his strong work ethic and friendly spirit to all who knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, Dominic found joy and peace in fishing and four-wheeling-pastimes that perfectly suited his adventurous heart and appreciation for the beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Dominic and Elizabeth Durant.
Dominic leaves behind his cherished children: Austin Durant, Allison Durant, and Autumn Durant. He is also survived by his loving siblings: Sally (Jim) Pruitt of Plainwell, Michigan; Martha Johnson of White Pine, Michigan; Clifford (Stevi) Durant of Zeba, Michigan; and Mary Kaye (Anthony) Shalifoe of Baraga, Michigan. His legacy of strength, laughter, and love will live on through his family and all who were fortunate enough to know him.
A wake will be held to honor Dominic's life and spirit on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior, located at Zeba Hall with Jacobson Funeral Home assisting the family.
