Obituary

Doris Grace (Kaarto) Carlson, 79, of Nisula, made her journey to heaven on October 12, 2026, with her family by her side.

She was born on June 14, 1947, to Eino and Helen (Wilman) Kaarto. She graduated with the Class of 1966 from Mass City. On February 4, 1967, she married her soulmate, David Carlson. Together, they had two daughters, Denise and Deanna.

Doris and David were blessed with almost 60 years of marriage. He would say she was his angel sent to him. She will be deeply missed, but the special memories will live forever.

Doris and Deanna had a special relationship as well. The phone calls, holiday dinners, and trips to St. Vinny's and Syl's for lunch will be missed.

Doris had six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. She adored them. Some of their fondest memories of "Nana" will be playing board games while having popcorn and punch, walking around the pond looking for frogs, sleepovers, and the unconditional love she gave to them and the rest of her family.

She took pride in her home, enjoying cooking, cleaning, baking, doing yardwork, and making sure no one ever left her home hungry! She had a heart of gold! Doris was a member of the Mission United Lutheran Church in Pelkie. She enjoyed worshiping and having coffee with the ladies.

Doris is survived by her husband, David; daughter, Deanna (Eric) Kemppainen; grandchildren, David (Jenny), Hayley (Senn), Kelsey, Dylan, Michael (Hanna), and Carley; great-grandsons, Elliott and Jack; sisters, Florence Sandve, Joyce (Don) Liuska, and Jeanette Juntunen; and several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved "Kitty."

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Denise; nephews; and in-laws.

A Memorial Service will take place on October 24, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m at Mission Untied Lutheran Church in Pelkie. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall.

Burial will take place in the Nisula Cemetery following the luncheon.
