Eva Yvonne Huhtasaari, age 92, of Askel, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Eva was born on August 19, 1934, in Racine, Wisconsin, the daughter of Roy and Beatrice (Bradshaw) Matsen. She graduated from Lake Linden High School in 1952. On May 12, 1956, she married Kenneth Huhtasaari in Detroit, Michigan. While living in Detroit, Eva worked for three years as an IBM keypunch operator at Western Electric. In 1974, Eva and Kenneth moved to Askel, where she worked as a nursing aide at Cypress Manor and later in the mailroom at Finlandia University.

Eva was a member of Mission United Lutheran Church. She especially enjoyed spending time with and playing with her grandchildren, who brought her much joy.

Eva is survived by her children, Kerrie (Brian) Keranen of Elo, Kenneth (Bonnie) Huhtasaari of L'Anse, Karl (Young) Huhtasaari of Askel, and Kim (Kirk) Beyer of Askel; 12 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Huhtasaari; and her siblings, Grace Katt, Betty Matsen, Doris Shockley, Joyce Suo, Mae Skrypek, Delores Marsy, LeRoy Matsen, and Elizabeth Hetchler.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 6th at 11 AM at Mission United Lutheran Church with Rev. Soren Schmidt officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Following the service a luncheon will be held in the church hall. Burial will be in the Elo Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
