Faye Louise Boomer, age 78 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her family after a yearlong courageous battle with leukemia. She was born November 14, 1936 to Charles B. and Martha (Keranen) Dantes in Herman. Faye graduated from L’Anse High School in 1954. She then moved to the Detroit area. She worked for Western Electric for 6 ½ years and enjoyed her job in the billing and accounting department. She met her husband while in the area, they married May 13, 1960 in Detroit, MI and moved back to Herman where she lived for over 50 years and had been in L’Anse since 2011. She was active in 4-H through her school years and later a leader. She was also a co-leader in Girl Scouts. She was a member of L’Anse Baptist Church. She was active in the Herman Historical Society and quilting groups at LBC and ULC. She sang in the church and community choir. She served on the election board for over 40 years. Faye was an avid reader and enjoyed walking, baking, nature, singing, listening to music, swimming, gardening, picking berries, traveling and being by the lake. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed the family birthday parties and holiday get togethers. She truly enjoyed her family and friends. Faye loved her pets, especially Bup who she always missed. She was a cat lover as well. She was a very caring person and wonderful wife and mother. Surviving are her daughters, Debbie (Jeff) Summers of Herman, MI, Lenora Veker of Hancock, MI; grandchildren, Derek (Denise) Makela of Covington, MI, Jay Makela of Laurium, MI, Jessica Makela of Marquette, MI, Joseph Boomer of Laurium, MI, Ashley Faye Boomer of Hancock; great grandchildren, Michael, Stella, Alex, Angelina, Laura, Wynter; sister Ann Makila of Westland, MI and brother Allan J. (Rebecca) Dantes of South Charleston, WV; sisters-in-law, Beatrice Dantes of Milford, MI, Charlotte Boomer of Escondido, CA, Carole Claire of Ypsilanti, MI, Margaret (Don) Morrissey of Clarkston, MI, Linda (James) Deaton of Mena, AR; numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Don in 2014; son Charles Boomer in 2011; brothers, Charles D. and Bert Dantes; brothers-in-law Ed Makila and Bob Boomer; and sister-in-law Judy Teubner. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at L’Anse Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gerald Bishop officiating. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. Burial will be in the spring in the Herman Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
