Frances Mary Skytta, age 86 of Teal Lake Senior Living Community in Negaunee, MI passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Marquette County Medical Care Facility in Ishpeming, MI with her family at her side.
She was born June 4, 1929 in Duluth, MN daughter of Joseph and Isabelle (King) Ellenich. Frances was raised in Baraga, MI. She married Homer K. Salo in August of 1946 and he preceded her in death in 1975. In October of 1977 she married Donald Skytta. Frances and Homer owned a grocery store in L’Anse. She then worked for 15 years at the Coast to Coast store downtown L’Anse until 1977. She loved bowling, sewing, dancing and crafts.
Surviving are her husband Donald Skytta of Negaunee; son Michael J. (Sue Ann) Salo of Bradenton, FL; daughters, Nancy J. Haanpaa of L’Anse, Arlene (Jim) Kemppainen of L’Anse, Lynn (Bruce) Sprangers of Elgin, IL; stepson, Dennis (Carla) Skytta of Michigamme; stepdaughter Katherine (Peter) Starkey of Michigamme; brothers, Joseph (Linda) Ellenich Jr. of Baraga, Gary (Alicia) Ellenich of Cassopolis, MI; sister Gloria Tahtinen of Baraga; 25 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Homer Salo; stepson Albert Skytta; sisters Patricia Ellenich, Phyllis Maki; and granddaughter Shelly Bennett.
Visitation will be on Saturday, March 12th from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse. A memorial service will be held at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the spring in the Northland Chapel Gardens in Negaunee, MI.
