Gary Frank Hansen, age 71 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on July 29, 1940 in L'Anse, MI son of Harold "Bud" and Stella (Stone) Hansen. Gary graduated from L'Anse High School in 1958. He married the former Darlene Johnson on July 8, 1961 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L'Anse. Gary worked for Cleveland Cliffs International for 33 years; retiring in 1997.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and was a handyman and fixed many things for people.
Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Darlene Hansen of L'Anse; sons, Gary Hansen of Covington, David (Kathy) Hansen of L'Anse; daughter, Dawn VanWagner of L'Anse; mother, Stella Hansen of L'Anse; brothers, Harold "Mort" (Sally) Hansen of Escanaba, Joe (Corrine) Hansen of Paynesdale, MI; sisters, Mary Ann (Von) Moore of Green Bay, WI, Cathy (Ray) Gazley of L'Anse, Elizabeth "Boopie" (Bob) Snyder of L'Anse, Darlene Elmblad of L'Anse; grandchildren, Alex, Megan, Chris (Stephanie), Dana (Chad), Josh, Joe, Garrett, Krystle, Heather (Jesse); great grandchildren, Madysen and Addison; special nephew Donnie Elmblad and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death are his father Harold and brother-in-law Gary Elmblad.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13th at Jacobson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with visitation for one hour prior to the service. Fr. John Longbucco will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting family.
