George B Cram Jr, 88, L'Anse, MI passed away on November 6, 2026 at Bay Side Nursing Home. He was born on December 31, 1937 in Bismarck, North Dakota to George and Vi ("BomBom") Cram. He graduated from Bismarck High School in 1955. As a young child, George and his 6 brothers had many adventures at the nearby golf course. They would look for lost golf balls and sell them for extra spending money. While on their explorations, George found a broken golf club which was shared by all the boys to play on the course and started his love of golf.
His golf passion continued as he played on the Oklahoma State University Golf Team and the they took 2nd in the 1958 and 5th in the 1959 NCAA golf tournament. He graduated from OSU in 1960 with a degree in banking & finance. George is a 5-time North Dakota State Amateur Golf Champion. He won approximately 50+ golf tournaments in North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana, & Minnesota. He was elected to the North Dakota State Amateur Golf Association Hall of Fame in 1970. George was a National Guard Vet serving during his college years.
After graduation, George was employed as a Bank Examiner for the State of North Dakota for 6 years and then changed jobs to work for Liberty National Bank in Dickinson, ND, for another 6 years. His career continued to grow with a new position in Billings, MT as a loan officer for 1st Citizen's Bank for 5 years. He then was recruited as a Vice President for Commercial National Bank in L'Anse, MI for 26 years before retiring in 2000. George continued to be active in the golf community and was also the L'Anse High School Golf Coach for 22 years. During that time the L'Anse HS Girls Golf team won a MHSAA State Championship in 1992. George had a love of sports which included the Minnesota Vikings, LA Dodgers & Lakers, and all basketball teams.
George married Jan Huso of Bismarck, ND, on January 6, 1961. Together they raised two children and built a beautiful life throughout the Midwest, making homes in North Dakota, Montana, and the Michigan's Upper Peninsula. George was a devoted husband, a loving grandfather, and a lifelong sports fan who never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams-win or lose (though he certainly preferred winning).
George is survived by a son George B (Carol) Cram III of Midland, MI, a daughter, Callie Cram, of L'Anse, MI, a granddaughter, Jana Cram of Chicago, IL, grandson, Jeff Cram of Grand Rapids, MI, Claire Mackenzie of Madison, WI, granddaughter, Libby (Nels) Toivonen of Yacolt, WA, 3 great grandchildren, a brother Gerald W. Also, a special thank you to a dear family friend and caregiver, Lee DeLeon for his many years of support to his family.
