Obituary

Glenn Daniel Tolonen Sr., age 52, of Zeba, Michigan, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

He was born on September 12, 1973, in L'Anse, Michigan, the son of Donald Sr. and Myrtle (Matthews) Tolonen. Glenn graduated from L'Anse High School and began learning the art of fishing at a young age from his older brothers. Fishing became a lifelong passion and a way of life for Glenn, who spent more than 40 years as a commercial fisherman.

Glenn enjoyed many of life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing and hunting, gambling, cooking and smoking fish, and most of all, spending time with his friends and the people he cared about. He was a proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community.

Glenn is survived by his children, Raymond (Sydney) Gauthier-Tolonen, Glenn "Sonny" Tolonen Jr., and Macee Tolonen, all of L'Anse; sister, Cheryl Denomie of L'Anse; grandchildren, Victoria Myrtle Tolonen, Mariyah Marie Tolonen, Izzabella Gauthier, Robert Mukka-Brown, Jett Ketola, and one grandchild on the way; special friend, Tara Simmons of Wisconsin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Myrtle Tolonen; daughter, Samantha Tolonen; and brothers, Donald and John Tolonen.

Visitation will be held at the KBIC Zeba Hall on Sunday, August 16, 2026, from 11-1 PM with a traditional funeral service and a Fisherman's Farewell at 1:00 p.m., followed by a feast, then burial at 3 PM at the Pinery Indian Cemetery.

Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
