Harriet Jean Heikkinen, age 75 of Baraga, MI passed away at the Omega House, Wednesday August 11, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born September 7, 1945 in Flint, MI daughter to Eli and Lucille (Smith) Jones. Jean was raised in Flint along with her siblings. It was there she met Bob, the love of her life. They left the city in 1968 and moved to the U.P. where they felt it was a safer, better environment to raise their family. They first lived in Atlantic Mine and in 1973 moved their family to Keweenaw Bay.
Jean will always be remembered for her love and protection of family, her wit and warm sense of humor, her contagious laughter and her homemade pasties. She was the family caregiver- giver of unconditional love and support for all of those in her blended family. In addition to being with her family she enjoyed many crafts, working puzzles and watching Netflix. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
Surviving are her children, Sue (Jim) Wilson of Baraga, Cindy Heikkinen of Lincoln, CA, William Craig Heikkinen of Springtown, TX, David (Candace) Heikkinen of Tapiola, MI; stepchildren, Paula (Tom) Rocco of Houghton, MI, Robert (Mary) Heikkinen of Philadelphia, PA; grandchildren, Tim (Lisa), Jennifer (Rick), Christine (Brandon), Terence, Nicole (Tremayne), Haley (Trent), Cati (Cade), Kelly (Cody), Christina (Jason), Jason, Cassie (John), Jackie (Nathan), Hailey, and Louie (Gianna); 13 great grandchildren; brothers, Dan (Renee) and Kenneth Jones.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Bob; son Peter; and 11 siblings.
Her funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 17th at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. John Ansell officiating. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church. Burial will follow in the Keweenaw Bay Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
