Harry Paul Grafton

Harry Paul Grafton, age 70, of L'Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2010 at Baraga county Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Janesville, Illinois on May 31, 1940 the son of the late Lawrence and Theda (Boggs) Grafton. Harry graduated from college with a two year associates degree and served in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1963.

He married the former Sandra Johnson of L'Anse, on August 19, 1961. He retired after 20 years in the L'Anse Township Parks Department working as assistant supervisor alongside longtime friend Tom Nordstrom.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 144, L'Anse Village Council, Deputy of Baraga County serving at dances and weddings, Baraga county Pool League, and was a Portage Health System volunteer. Harry was a diehard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Mr. Grafton is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandy; sons, Robert of Green Bay, WI, Scott (Julie) of L'Anse, and Todd of L'Anse; daughters, Laurie (Kirk) Coby of Richmond, IN, Michelle (Dave) Bier of Aura, Debbie (Dennis) Gerard of L'Anse, and Keri Williams of Green Bay, WI; two brothers, DeWayne (Betty) Grafton of Mechanicsburg, PA and Gary Grafton of Perth, Australia; two sisters, Edile (Tom) Cook of Chatham, IL and Ruth (Ron) Hibbard of Frankfort, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Ryan, Corey, Sarah, Joshua, Theresa, Joseph, David, Daniel and Izabella, all whom he loved and adored spending time with.

His outgoing personality and sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Rest in peace Papa, we love you!

Funeral service, military rites, will be held on Thursday, September 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home by the Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of American Legion Post 444. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
