Hilia Maria Huhtala
October 8, 1920 — March 27, 2012
Hilia Marie Huhtala, age 91 of L'Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Houghton, MI.
She was born October 8 1920 in Herman, MI daughter to Fabian and Julia Anna (Kujala) Torvinen. Hilia graduated from L'Anse High School in 1939; then moved to Detroit and worked at Briggs Manufacturing. She married Roy Huhtala in Hancock in 1946. They lived on a farm in Herman prior to moving into L'Anse. Hilia also worked at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital doing clerical work for 18 years.
Hilia was a member of the United Lutheran Church, Esther's Circle, and the Eagles. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and skiing.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Roy; sisters Taimi Autio, Sylvia Johnson, and Aune Beels; and a brother Tauno Torvinen.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Mileski officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Herman Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family,
