Hudson "Hud" Lee Johnson, age 86, formerly of L'Anse, passed away on January 3, 2012, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital in L'Anse.

Hudson was born in Hibbing, MN on December 15, 1925, to Engve and Violet Johnson. From 1943 a�" 1946, Hudson served in the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS San Diego. After graduating from Manistique High School in 1946, he then began a career with General Telephone & Electronics in Lower Michigan that spanned 33 years. After retirement, he enjoyed fishing and hunting throughout the area, as well as Alaska and Canada, and he also worked in various positions in L'Anse. Hudson enjoyed getting out and seeing people throughout town. For over 42 years, he was extremely devoted to and active in Alcoholics Anonymous, where he touched many people's lives. He also volunteered to travel to Tanzania, Africa with his church to improve and construct living facilities for the residents there. He was extremely proud of these trips and loved to talk about them. While in Africa, he attempted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Hudson is survived by his four children: Patty Hall of St Petersburg, FL, James Johnson of Sturgeon Bay WI, Thomas (Rosalynn) Johnson of Edgefield SC, and Robert (Jane) Johnson of Green Bay WI, as well as 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death.

In Hudson's honor, memorial donations may be shared with the United Lutheran Church, 21 Mesnard St., L'Anse, MI 49946. The family will greet friends at the United Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 7th from 9-11:00 a.m. Military rites will be conducted by the Baraga County Area Veterans, under the direction of the American Legion Post 444, at 11:00 a.m.; immediately followed by the funeral service with Rev. Greg Mileski officiating. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
