Ingrid Aura Moilanen

View FlowersIngrid Moilanen, age 90, a lifelong resident of Herman, MI passed away on Monday, December 05, 2011 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 17, 1921 in Herman, MI daughter to Erick and Hilma (Hendrickson) Nurmi. Ingrid graduated from L'Anse High School in 1939. She married her childhood sweet heart, Waino Moilanen, on September 3, 1939 on the Nurmi family farm in Herman.

She was a waitress at Muzzy's Cabins and worked at the hospital in the kitchen for 9 years. Ingrid worked for 30 years on the election board. She was a member of the United Lutheran Church and was an initial member of the United Lutheran Church quilting group, 4-H group leader, one of the founders of the Herman Woman's Extension Club and Herman Hall Association, which later became the Herman Historical Society. She was a noted "bread baker" and an avid reader.

Surviving are her children, Glenn (Bonnie) Moilanen of Herman, James (Linda) Moilanen of Chula Vista, CA, Wayne (Cathy) Moilanen of Negaunee, Jack Moilanen of Herman, Lora Murray of Hudson, MI, Louis Moilanen of Herman; sister Viola Funkhouser of Rockville, Maryland; 11 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Waino; daughter Ingrid "Christine" Moilanen; brother Wayne Nurmi; sisters Miriam Keranen, Aune Sturgeon, Mildred Vargas; and a grandson Phillip Moilanen.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8th from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home and on Friday from 10-11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church in L'Anse. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 9th at 11:00 a.m. at the United Lutheran Church will Rev. Greg Mileski officiating. Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 2nd at 2:00 p.m. in the Herman Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
