James Almore Cooley

James Almore Cooley, age 90, of Skanee, MI, died Thursday, July 3rd, 2025 at Bayside Village in L'Anse, Michigan.

James was born August 26, 1934 in Van Buren County, MI to Herbert and Julia (Beaty) Cooley. He married Carol Buis in October 1954 and raised two children. James proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Silverstein DE534. James worked for the Michigan Department of Transportation, retiring in 1990. James was a member, for many years, of the Arvon Township Fire Department. In his retirement he and Carol liked to travel in their motorhome to visit family and friends around the country. They really enjoyed going to Silverstein's ship reunions and kept in touch with shipmates from his time in the Navy.

He is survived by his son Scott (Juana) Cooley of Asheville, NC; daughter Allyson (Craig) Cooley-Brakeman of Traverse City, MI; grandson Dyllan (Hattie) Cooley of Ashville, NC; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Cooley of Minneola, FL and Diane Cooley of Portage, MI; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Eugene and Herbert Jr; and wife Carol.

The family is following his wishes for cremation and no visitation service. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
