John Edward Hemond

April 11, 1936 — October 23, 2017

John “Jack” Edward Hemond, age 81 of Baraga, MI died Monday, October 23, 2017 unexpectedly, doing what he loved, bird hunting.

He was born April 11, 1936 in St Albans, VT son of Merrill and Olivia (Willette) Hemond. John grew up in Bethel, VT, after graduation he entered the US Army October 1961- August 1962. He resided most of his life in Randolph, VT and owned Jack’s Roofing and Siding. John later married Maria Hermoso on December 27, 1985 in Vermont. They resided in Mexico for 7 years, moving to Baraga 3 years ago.

He was an avid outdoorsman, loved hunting, fishing, bird hunting, watching NASCAR and football, and enjoyed traveling. He was always full of energy and on the go.

Surviving are his wife Maria Hemond of Baraga; loving daughter Allison (Dana) Hietikko of L’Anse; and son Kurt King of East Montpelier VT; brothers, Patrick (Anna) Hemond of St. Antonio TX, Merrill Hemond Jr of New Jersey, Christopher Hemond of Bethel VT; sisters, Susan Bissonnette of Orlando FL, Kathleen (Jim) Nerpouni of Chagrin Falls OH, Jennifer (Ben) Gates of Colorado, Mary Hemond-Mack of Greenville NC; two grandchildren, Alexander Tilson, Alisha Tilson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents and infant daughter Paula Lynn Hemond.

Visitation will be on Monday, October 30th from 4-5 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 5 p.m. under the direction of the American Legion Post 444.
