John Oscar Waisanen

John Oscar Waisanen, age 73 of L'Anse, Michigan passed away on Sunday, November 17th, 2024 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

He was born September 8, 1951 in L'Anse, MI son of Edward and Julia (Lahti) Waisanen. He graduated from L'Anse High School. John served in the U.S. Navy from 1970-74 during the Vietnam War. In 1978, he married Debbie Heard in Long Beach, CA where he worked in the Navy Shipyard. In 1989, they moved back to L'Anse and he worked for Connors Lumber Mill. John liked to work and enjoyed helping people. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW.

Surviving are his son Justin (Sara) Waisanen of San Antonia, TX; daughter Carrie Waisanen of Columbus, OH; former wife Debbie Darkfyre of L'Anse; sister Evelyn Dimkoff of Kalamazoo, MI; two grandson, Joshua and Thomas Waisanen.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Edward and Julia; son, Joseph Waisanen; siblings, Louise Waisanen, Ralph Waisanen, and Eva Waisanen.

Visitation will be on Friday, November 22nd from 1-2:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Fr. Jins Joseph officiating. A burial with military honors will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 23, 2025, at L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the American Legion Post 144 in L'Anse, Michigan. Family and friends are welcome to join in celebrating John's life and sharing memories.
