Josephine Margaret (Olszak) Niemi

Josephine Margaret Niemi, age 91 of Aura, MI, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Shulstad’s Leisure Living, where she has resided for the past year. She was born February 12, 1925 in Ironwood, MI, daughter of Andrew and Mary (Nowak) Olszak. Josie grew up in Ironwood and then moved to the Chicago area. She met and married Eugene Niemi in 1956 and in 2015, they celebrated 59 years of marriage. They enjoyed spending summers at their cabin in Aura and visiting with family and friends. Josie worked as a Lunchroom Supervisor for the Chicago Public School System. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, fishing with her husband, loved holding babies, and adored her pets. Surviving are her son Wayne (Sue) Niemi of Aura; sister Rosie Lesniak of Chicago; six grandchildren; five great-granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Eugene Niemi; son Melvin Niemi; siblings, Frank, Wally, Agnes, Stephanie, and Lucille. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 25th from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Burial will be in the spring in the Aura Cemetery.
