Karen Elizabeth (Salo) Pakkala
January 28, 1944 — September 22, 2015
Karen Pakkala, age 71 of L’Anse, MI passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2015 at her home with her family at her side.
She was born January 28, 1944 in Waverly, NY. Karen lived in New York, Sugar Island, MI, and Superior, WI prior to moving to L’Anse. She graduated from L’Anse High School in 1962 and married Raymond Pakkala on November 17, 1962 in L’Anse.
She was a member of the Golden Eagles Drum and Bugle Corp. She served on the L’Anse School Board for 16 years and was instrumental in starting the Senior Lock-In Parties at L’Anse High School. Karen enjoyed fishing and was an avid reader.
She is preceded in death by her father Arvo Salo and mother and step father, Irja and Leonard Harju; brothers, Larry and Melvin Salo.
Surviving are her husband Ray of L’Anse; and two daughters and their families.
Per her request there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
