Leon H. Thompson, age 75, of L'Anse, MI passed away on Thursday, September 09, 2010 at Bayside Village in L'Anse.

He was the beloved father of Holly (Troy) Belanger of L'Anse and Linda Brackeen of San Antonio. He was the dear grandfather of B.J. Brackeen of San Antonio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Elsie (Atkins) Thompson, brother Robert and sisters Sarah and Ruth.

Leon was born in Stainsville, Tennessee in 1935. He later moved to Oliver Springs, Tennessee. He graduated from Oliver Spring High School in 1957. Later, he moved to the Metro Detroit Area where he worked in various factories. In May of 1974, he married Mary Vardich in Macomb County. In August of 1975, they had their daughter Holly. He and his wife resided in Sterling Heights for over 30 years. He worked for many years at Howard Plating Industries and retired from there in 1986.

He became a Christian in the nineties at the Metro Church of Christ in Sterling Heights. He enjoyed attending worship and preparing the Lord's Supper there. In 2008, after the death of his wife, he moved to L'Anse to be with his daughter Holly and son-in-law Troy. He enjoyed living at Bayside Nursing Home where he received excellent care. He especially enjoyed playing bingo there and winning various knick- knacks. In the evenings, he liked to watch Wheel of Fortune with his daughter Holly. Leon had a wonderful smile and charming Southern drawl and an easygoing demeanor that will be cherished and remembered forever.

Visitation will be from 5-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11th at the Jacobson Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home, followed with a luncheon and fellowship in The Sharing Room at Jacobson Funeral Home.
