Lewanta (Wanda) Eveline (Masterson) Burris

Lewanta (Wanda) Eveline Burris, age 89 of Mt. Morris, MI died Thursday, September 22, 2016 at Bayside Village in L’Anse, MI.

She was born on November 29, 1926 in Union County, IL to Clarence and Hattie (Dublin) Masterson. She attended school in Mt. Morris, MI. In March 1944, Wanda married her husband of 43 years, Robert G. Burris of Mt. Morris who was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. She worked at General Motors for several years, and was a cook for the Mt. Morris school district. They lived in Mt. Morris and had a cabin in West Branch where they, their family & friends enjoyed many years of boating, fishing, hunting, and many cook-outs.

Wanda was preceded in death by her husband, in March 1987; and special friend Everett Wyman, in 2011. She is survived by her three children, Diana (Andre) Belanger of Sidnaw, MI, Robert (Beth) Burris, and Debra O’Toole of Genesee, MI; seven grandchildren, Jeff (Shelle) Zeek, Greg (Dawn) Zeek, Curt (Sarah) Kimmel, Shawn (Krystal) O’Toole, Derrick (Alex) O’Toole, Brett (Trisha) Burris, Brandi (Ron) Logan; 18 great-grandchildren and great-great granddaughters, Emerson & Brinley Long. She is also survived by her sister, Sue (Bob) Robinson of Mt. Morris, MI; special friend Darlene Mudget of West Branch; and special cousin, Margarete Jones of Florida.

Wanda enjoyed attending church, fishing, bowling and shopping, but her passion was cooking for her family and friends, which they all enjoyed. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. A special Thank You to all the personnel and Bayside Village for their outstanding care, kindness and compassion during her final years. Her family and friends are forever grateful.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial will be held in Mt. Morris, MI at a later date. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L’Anse is in charge of arrangements.
