Lyla Martha Eccles, age 95 of L’Anse, MI went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 21, 2016, surrounded by her family, at the Omega House in Houghton, MI.

She was born March 16, 1921 in Elo, MI daughter of Kasper and Aina (Laurinen) Kyllonen. In growing up on the farm she helped with chores such as feeding chickens, milking cows, harvesting potatoes, and fielding hay. She attended the little Red school house in Elo. Lyla traveled to school in a covered wagon school bus pulled by horses. During the war, she and her sisters went to work in Detroit at the factory.

She married Edward Frosland, he preceded; then she married Oscar Karschney, he preceded; then she married Fred Eccles, whom also preceded her in death. Lyla worked at Oralie’s store in L’Anse then as a dietary aide in the kitchen at BCMH for over 20 years.

Lyla was an active member of L’Anse Baptist Church where she was involved with the Missionary Ladies group, taught Sunday School and Awana. She enjoyed playing the piano, crocheting, embroidery, going to garage sales, visiting people and was a fine cook. Lyla loved children, friends, and family. She was loved by all who met her, brought out the very best in people, and was warmly greeted everywhere she went.

Surviving are her daughter, Sally (Clark) Givens of Houghton; grandchildren, Brendhan (Jenn) Givens of Calumet, Bjorn Givens of Hubbell, Greg Sandel of Van Nuys, CA, Patti (George) Hansen of Onalaska, WI; great grandchildren, Thea, Brian, Holly, Tom; numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husbands; children, Valerie Sandel, Shirley Frosland, Lynne Frosland; siblings, Axel, Arne, and Alti Kyllonen, Inez Marttila, Mae Forslin, and Sally Luoto.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, July 25th at 3:00 p.m. at the L’Anse Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Bishop officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in the L’Anse Evergreen Cemetery. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
