Marcia Ann Velmer

Marcia A. (McKay) Velmer, 62, of Baraga, passed away on March 23, 2011 at the Baraga County Memorial Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 22, 1948 in Hartford, Conn. and moved to Nisula as a child. She was raised by her parents, Ronald and Viola (Kero) Heikkinen. Marcia attended Laird School and graduated from Baraga High School in 1966. She spent her adult years in the L'Anse and Baraga area. Her greatest joy in life was her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Ojibwa Senior Housing Complex. They truly made her final years happy and memorable. Marcia is survived by her children: Bonita (Dave Phillips) Neveau; Lawrence (Cathy) Velmer; Irene (Clarence) Roy and Joseph (K.C.) Velmer, Jr; twelve grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard (Sue) McKay; two sisters, Bonnie (Kenneth) Korttila and Diane (Timothy) Mayo and one sister-in-law, Wanda McKay. Marcia was preceded in death by Joseph Velmer, Sr.; her parents, Ronald and Viola Heikkinen; her brothers, Kenneth (Mike) McKay, William McKay and Ronald Heikkinen. A memorial service will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga on Monday, March 28, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Pamela Long, LLM, will officiate.
