Margaret Jennie Stenson

March 24, 1920 — May 19, 2014

Margaret Jennie Stenson, age 94 of Covington, MI passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.

She was born March 24, 1920 in Duluth, MN daughter of Conrad and Amanda (Pederson) Haarstad. In 1939 Margaret graduated high school in Duluth. She married Conrad Stenson in 1941 in Detroit, MI where she worked for Burroughs Typewriter Company for a few years. They moved to Covington in 1947. She raised her family and in the 1960's went to work for the US Postal Service and was a rural carrier out of Covington. Margaret was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary of the Henry Hendrickson Post 8945. She had also worked at the L'Anse Golf Course.

Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, scrabble, crafts, making beautiful sequin calendars, rug hooking, playing cards, bowling, and learned to golf in her 60's. Through Margaret's lifetime... she enjoyed fishing, taking rides through the countryside and rides to visit family who lived far away. In her kitchen, she canned jars of jams, fruits and vegetables. She prepared thousands of loaves of baked bread and banana bread and made many pans of delicious cinnamon buns and bread rolls and cookies. Whatever she entered in the Pelkie Fair, she would bring home blue ribbons.

The wisdom, which our mother passed to us, was not to be arrogant, to be humble, and to greet others with arms outstretched for Big Hugs. Extend a helping hand to others. Offer support with the wonderful words of life. Life doesn't always give us good-times... One must continue with perseverance, by taking just that one step forward. Even if that one step forward requires two or three steps back. Mother, is our light and we won't ever POOF her out! Mother, believed she had a friend in Jesus and to take everything to God in prayer. That was one of her most favorite hymns. 'What A Friend We Have In Jesus". Mothers heart was filled with love and peace. We will keep beautiful memories of all of the wonderful memories of everything she touched with her love.

Surviving are her sons, Fred and Stanley Stenson of Covington, Thor Stenson of Marquette; daughters, Ruthy (Tom) Brown of L'Anse, Margie (Edgar) Aguilar of CA, Cindy (Ron) Kantola of Chassell, Holly (Juan) Jasso of CA; daughter's-in-law, Jeane Stenson of Trout Creek, Patty Stenson of Baraga; 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sister's-in-law, Viona Haarstad, Marie Stenson, and Sharline Reo; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband Conrad; children, Conrad, Arthur, Teddy, and Rebecca Stenson; brothers and sisters, Carl Haarstad, Anne (Haarstad) Parkila, Ruth (Haarstad) Schreiner, Conrad Haarstad and Alfred Haarstad.

Margaret will be very much missed by all of her family and family of friends she gained throughout her many years.

A graveside service and memorial gathering will be announced in the future. Burial will be in the Covington Cemetery. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
