Marie Elena Scheiding

Marie Elena Scheiding, 66, of Baraga, MI, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Medilodge in Munising, Michigan.

Marie was born on February 26, 1959, in Wakefield, MI, to James and Eleanor (Nelson) Madden. She grew up in the Upper Peninsula and graduated from Ewen-Trout Creek High School. Throughout her life, she lived in Trout Creek and Eagle River, working as a waitress at the Friendship House in Eagle River, the Casino Restaurant in Watersmeet, and the Hilltop Restaurant in L'Anse. In 2017, she moved to Baraga, where she made her home.

A proud member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, Marie cherished time spent with her family, especially her beloved grandson, River. She also enjoyed visiting the casino with her sisters and had a deep love for her cat, Frankie.

Marie is survived by her sons, James "JT" (Debbie) Greig of Minnesota, Brett (Ashley) Scheiding of Ishpeming, MI, and Kyle (Tanya) Scheiding of Oconto Falls, WI; her sisters, Peggy (Will) Edbrooke of Fremont, MI, and Jane (Steve) Salli of Covington; and her grandson, River Scheiding.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Eleanor Madden, and her sister, Patricia "Patty" Stenson.

A celebration of Marie's life will be held on Saturday, June 28th from 10-12 p.m. at the American Legion Post in Trout Creek. Burial will follow in the Kenton Cemetery. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
