Mary Jean Henry, age 58 of L'Anse passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at her home.

She was born September 26, 1950 in Winona, MN daughter of Preston and Katherine (Macemon) Duncanson. Mary grew up in Winter Haven, FL; graduated from high school there and went to a community college for 2 years. Mary continued her education at Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky receiving a Bachelor degree in Elementary Education. In 1973 she married John Henry and they resided in Alaska for 16 years where Mary was a lay home missionary for the Methodist Church. She also taught preschool thru 2nd grade special education in Alaska for 13 years. They then moved to Michigan; serving in L'Anse from 1981-86; and came back in 2004. Mary got a Master's Degree in Special Education from Northern Michigan University and substitute taught up until 2004 when she became Principal/teacher for Arvon Schools.

Mary was a member of United Methodist Church in L'Anse, United Methodist Women (UMW), and "Bells on the Bay" hand bell group. Her hobbies include cross stitching, camping, fishing, and some hunting.

Surviving are her husband Rev. John Henry of L'Anse; sons Nathan (Jessica) Henry of Spokane, WA and Michael (Molly) Henry of Anchor Point, Alaska; grandchildren Blake, Cole, Ava, Micaiah; mother Katherine Duncanson of Winter Haven, FL; sister Kathy (Rodney) Johnson of Young Harris, Georgia; brother David (Wanda) Duncanson of Winter Haven, FL; and sister Nancy (Stephen) Irby of Fort Pierce, FL; several cousins, aunts, and uncles.

Preceding her in death are her father Preston Duncanson and granddaughter Ella Grace.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the L'Anse United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Fund.

The visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 1st from 5-8:00 pm at the L'Anse United Methodist Church. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 2nd at 11:00 am at the L'Anse United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Grant Lobb will officiate with Rev. Christine Bohnsack assisting. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
