Michael R. Whitty, 43, formerly of L'Anse, died Friday afternoon, February 9, 2007, at Maple Manor Nursing Center in Ontonagon, MI, following a lengthy illness.
He was born February 11, 1963, in L'Anse, a son of Terry Whitty and Carol (Tolonen) Tahtinen. Michael was raised in L'Anse then moved to Bruce Crossing where he resided for several years.
He was employed as a laborer with the Michigan State Parks Department prior to his illness.
Michael was a good artist and enjoyed music and singing.
He is survived by his mother, Carol Tahtinen of Keweenaw Bay; father, Terry Whitty of L'Anse; sister, Amanda (Terry) Schoneman of Merrill, WI; nieces, Amber, Marissa and Sydney; nephew, Nikolaus; and numerous aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. in the funeral home with Rev. Augustin George officiating. Interment will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery in the spring.
