Oscar W. Larson, 69, known to many as "Big O," of Baraga, MI, passed away May 15, 2026 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI, surrounded by his loving wife and children.
Oscar was born December 11, 1956, in Duluth, MN, to David and Senora (Pina) Larson. Growing up in a military family, he lived in many places around the world. He graduated from Chandler High School in Chandler, AZ in 1975, where he was a standout baseball player. He went on to pitch for Mesa Community College and Northern Arizona University, earning his degree in 1980, and was a proud member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
In 1994, Oscar married his beloved wife Tracy (Gerard), uniting their two families - children Meagen, David, and Tyler - and welcoming their youngest, Rebecca, shortly after.
Oscar was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and loyal friend who lived with a larger-than-life spirit. He had a deep passion for sports, the Upper Peninsula, camping, hunting, and time with family and friends. He took great pride in caring for his property and loved spoiling his grandchildren with sweets. Oscar was known for his fierce love, unforgettable bear hugs, loud and contagious laugh, and deep devotion to his community. His military upbringing gave him a natural charisma and the rare gift of making friends wherever he went.
Oscar spent many years as a salesman for McCabe Distributing. In 2012, he transitioned to the energy industry in North Dakota, and ran Wolverine Trucking for his longtime friend Brad LeClaire until his retirement in 2023. He was widely respected for his honesty and hardworking nature.
Oscar is preceded in death by his parents, David and Senora Larson; his sister, Janice Harris; and his beloved in-laws, Art and Lola Gerard.
He is survived by his wife Tracy; children Meagen, David (Justyna), Tyler (Carmen), and Rebecca; grandchildren Jaycee, Georgia, and Tessa (Tyler and Carmen), and Layton and Luci (David and Justyna); his granddog Reba (Meagen); sister Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family asks that their privacy be respected during this difficult time. To respect his wishes, a Celebration of Life for Oscar will be held at a later date.
