Phyllis Ann Maki, age 78 of Baraga, MI passed away suddenly on Monday, September 15, 2014 at her home.

She was born February 29, 1936 in Baraga, MI daughter to Joseph and Isabelle (King) Ellenich. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1954. Phyllis married Paul T. Maki on February 19, 1955 at St. Ann’s Church in Baraga.

Phyllis has worked at a variety of local businesses and she and Paul owned and operated the Sidetrack Bar from 1984 to 1994. Phyllis has been involved with the Baraga Lumberjack Days committee for nearly 40 years; most of them working on the booklet committee with Lola Gerard. She feels blessed to have been part of such a great committee for so long.

Phyllis was a member of St. Ann’s Church and was active with the church ladies. She has also been involved with the Baraga Fire Department Auxiliary, Knights of Columbus with her husband, bowling and softball leagues. She enjoys time with her family and friends, especially her grandkids, games on the computer and traveling.

Surviving are her 6 children, Paul (Dawn) Maki of Baraga, Sandra (Lance) Forcia of L’Anse, Patti Maki of Peyton, CO, Vicki (Paul) Mayfield of Carrollton, TX, Lori (Scott) Nicklas of Baraga, Jeffrey (Michelle) Maki of Baraga; brothers, Joe (Linda) Ellenich of Baraga, Gary (Alicia) Ellenich of Cassopolis, MI, sisters, Frances (Don) Skytta of Ishpeming, MI, Gloria Tahtinen of Baraga; 20 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends, and a lifetime best friend Lola Gerard of Baraga.

Preceding in death by her parents; husband Paul in 2004; infant son David; and great grandson Toby Nicklas.

Visitation will be on Friday, Sept. 19th from 4-7:00 p.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Her funeral mass will be on Saturday, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann’s Church with Fr. Corey Litzner officiating. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery. A luncheon and fellowship will follow in the church hall. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
