Robert "Bob" Wheeler Chapin a�" Age 94, of L'Anse, Michigan, passed away peacefully Friday, July 01, 2011, at Bayside Village.

Bob was born on February 17, 1917 to Robert and Edith Chapin of Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from Coloma High School, in Coloma, MI in 1936. Bob worked as a tool & die maker/welder for General Welding in Detroit, MI; then moved to Los Angeles, CA and later Denver, CO retiring in 1986 he then moved to L'Anse.

He was a communications technical 5 sergeant at World War 2, awarded the purple heart for wounds received in battle, the national defense service medal, the army good conduct medal and a world war 2 victory medal. He was an active member of the L'Anse VFW Post 3897, where he served as the Chaplain and participated in their monthly pasty sales. His hobbies included making signs for the local restaurants and clubs, working crossword puzzles and spending time with friends.

Bob is survived by his sons, Phil (Georgia) Chapin, William "Skip" Chapin, daughters, Jill (Ed) LaTourneau, Karen Chapin, Kathy (Tom) Techau, and many loving grandchildren and great-children.

He is predeceased by his loving wives Hazel Viola Sable-Chapin and Doris Chapin, children Robert Chapin, Jr., Robin Chapin-Cain, Carl "Butch" Chapin, Theodore, Claudette, Marvin, Francis and Linda.

A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, August 1st at 11:00 a.m. at Jacobson Funeral Home. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Pastor Bob White will officiate. Burial will be in the L'Anse Evergreen Cemetery, where the Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct Military Rites under the direction of the American Legion Post #444.

In lieu of flowers memorial may be made to the Baraga County Area Veterans, 505 Superior Ave, PO Box 160, Baraga, MI 49908. The Jacobson Funeral Home in L'Anse is assisting the family. A luncheon and fellowship will follow at the VFW Post 3897 in L'Anse.
