Robert Keith Denomie, age 90, of Baraga, Michigan, passed away peacefully surrounded by those who loved him.
Robert was born on January 5, 1936, in Baraga, Michigan, to Lawrence and Leona (LaCosse) Denomie. He attended Baraga Area Schools before proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force.
Following his military service, Robert made his home in the Milwaukee area, where he worked for many years as a structural steel fitter with Cardinal Fabricating. Through hard work and dedication, he built a respected career before retiring. In 1997, he returned to his hometown of Baraga, where he enjoyed spending his retirement years surrounded by family, friends, and the natural beauty of the Upper Peninsula.
Robert was a proud member of the Ojibwa Seniors, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community (KBIC), and Baraga American Legion Post 444. He had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and could often be found hunting or fishing. He also enjoyed bowling, following baseball, and spending time with those he loved. Above all, Robert cherished the more than 40 years he shared with his devoted partner, Marilyn Nord.
Robert is lovingly survived by his partner of over 40 years, Marilyn Nord; his children, Glen (Liz Mayo) Denomie of Baraga, Brian (Nicole) Denomie of South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Lisa Denomie of Baraga; his grandchildren, Kelsey Mayo, Matthew Denomie, Joshua Denomie, and Justin Raymond; and his great-grandson, Korbin Mayo.
He is also survived by Marilyn's children, Laura Lyn (Larry) Nielsen of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, and their children, Miah T. Nielsen and Nolan H. Nielsen; and Larry (Denise) Nord of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and their children, Larry Nord Jr. and Trevor Nord.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Leona Denomie; his siblings, Lawrence Denomie, Delores Eberl, Carlota Beauprey, Joan Bemis, Patricia Imig, and Betty Villwock.
Military honors will be held on Friday, July 31, at 3:00 p.m. at the Ojibwa Seniors, 16429 Beartown Road, Baraga, Michigan 49908. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
Robert will be remembered for his quiet strength, his love of the outdoors, his dedication to his family, and the many friendships he made throughout his life. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
