Robert W. Hakola, age 57 of Pelkie, MI passed away on Monday, November 10, 2008 at his home.
Robert was born April 11, 1951 in Hancock, MI son of the late Reino and Violet (Sipe) Hakola. He attended Pelkie and Baraga Area Schools and then went into the US Army and was in the Vietnam Conflict; upon returning he graduated from Bergland High School. Robert married Sherry Miller on July 7, 1972. He worked at White Pine Mine, Pettibone, and Lake Shore in Iron River until he retired. He married Elizabeth Dreelan on June 30, 2007 in Pelkie at Mission united Lutheran Church.
He is a member of the VFW Post 7646 in Alston and the Vietnam Veterans of America.
Robert is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Pelkie; son Jesse Hakola of Pelkie; brothers, Gary (Carol) Hakola of Marion, WI, Dale (Donna Maskill) Hakola of Baraga; sister Deana Allen of Green Bay; grandsons, Christian Hakola, Tyler Snyder, and Troy Hakola.
Preceding him in death are his parents; former wife Sherry Hakola-Miller; son Robert Hakola Jr., brother Raymond Hakola and sister-in-law Bernadine Hakola; uncle Robert Huot; various aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 20th at 11:00 A.M. at the Mission United Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The Baraga County Area Veterans will conduct military rites at 10:45 A.M.at the church under the direction of the Baraga American Legion Post 444. Rev. John Autio will officiate. Burial will be in the Pelkie Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mission United Lutheran Church. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is assisting the family.
