Robert Emil Hedman

Robert Emil Hedman, age 79 of Keweenaw Bay, MI and Apple Valley, CA passed away on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI.

He was born November 20, 1937 in Detroit, MI. Bob graduated from L’Anse High School in 1955. At a young age Bob ran the projectors at the L’Anse Mazda Theatre, then got his start in printing while working at the L’Anse Sentinel. He spent a couple of years working for Wilson Marine Transit Co and then worked for Celotex.

He married Diane Parkila on September 1, 1962 at the L’Anse United Methodist Church; they just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. In 1962, they moved to California where he worked for Kaynar Manufacturing Co in Fullerton CA until going to work for Royal Paper Box Co until retirement in 1993. Although Bob and Diane returned to the area annually they had a home in Apple Valley, CA since 1998 and a summer home in Keweenaw Bay since 2000.

Bob was a member of the L’Anse United Methodist Church. He remembers as a young boy when the church was moved from Pequaming to L’Anse. He was also a dual member of the Elks Club in Victorville and Indio, CA. Bob liked anything with wheels and engines. They enjoyed their motor home which they used in Indio, CA during the winter. They belonged to the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Assoc.), Newell Owners Club, and Good Sam Club.

Surviving are his wife Diane Hedman, numerous cousins and special in-laws. Over the years his dogs and cats were his family.

Preceding in death are his parents Emil and Bertha (Reed) Hedman.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 11:00 a.m. at the L’Anse United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Rhoades officiating. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will follow the service in the church hall. Burial will be in the Pequaming Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the L’Anse United Methodist Church in Bob’s memory. The Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
