In the beautiful Ottawa National Forest with the sun shining on the snow covered trees, Rodger K. Wood of Brown City, took his last breath on earth November 15th, 2020. It was his 61st year of deer hunting in Kenton, MI- a very special town so dear to his heart. He often said, ‘This is God’s country’.
Rodger was born on June 20, 1944 to Claude and Velma Wood. He graduated from Brown City High School, Class of 1962. He married Shirley Himmel on August 13, 1966. They were blessed with four children; Wayne, Sherry (Tom), Ken (Brenda) and Kevin (Kelly).
He farmed south of Brown City where he raised children, crops and cattle. He was always an active member of Brown City. He was co-founder of the First Response Team, past member of 4-H Council and Fair Board. He served on the Brown City Fire Department for 30 years, 24 of those as Fire Chief. He was a member of the Brown City Festival Committee. He loved traveling and visited all 50 states.
He loved being with his family and friends and often had a joke or a prank waiting for them. He was owner of Little Texas Party Store and Laundry for 32 years. He has 8 grandkids; Matt (Caitlyn), Gunner, Kersten, Darren, Zach, Kenton and Stryker.
Our family circle will forever be broken. We will miss his smile, love, joy and words of encouragement he had for each of us.
The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Brown City Fire Hall on November 21, 2020, from 2-5pm. Everyone is invited to the 2:00 Memorial given by fellow firefighters.
The family requests that any memorial donations can be made to the Brown City Fire Department.
