Sr. Daniel Marie Daniels

Sister Daniel Marie Daniels, age 73, of L'Anse, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2001 at her home.

She was born on May 12, 1927 in Lake Linden, MI, daughter to the late Dalma and Gradaline (Gagnon) Daniels. She graduated from Lake Linden High School, and received a degree in registered nursing. Sister Daniel just celebrated her fiftieth anniversary of her entry into religious life as a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet. Her mission began in the field of nursing, in 1953 to 1961 at St. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City, MO as Nursing Educator and then Nursing Supervisor, in 1961 she was at St. Joseph Hospital in Kirkwood, MO as Nursing Supervisor until 1964 when she moved to St. Joseph Community Hospital and Portage View Hospital in Hancock as Head Nurse and then Housekeeping Executive, in 1984 she was at Rock Haven, in House Springs, MO. In 1986 she became Administrator at St. Joseph Academy Convent in Green Bay, WI, which then led her to L'Anse in 1991 to join in the educational mission as Librarian at Sacred Heart School in L'Anse.

Sister Daniel was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus parish. She loved to read and enjoyed crafts.

She is survived by her brother Jerry (Mary) Daniels of Kalamazoo, MI, and a sister-in-law Elaine Daniels of Florence, WI.

She is preceded in death by two brothers Bart and Morris Daniels.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus, Fr. Greg Heikkala will officiate. There will be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church and on Monday from 5-8 p.m. at the Jacobson Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock, MI. The Jacobson Funeral Home of L'Anse is in charge of arrangements.
