Terry Dennis Haanpaa

Terry Dennis Haanpaa, age 61 of Herman, MI passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at UP Healthcare System in Marquette, MI. Terry was born July 22, 1954 in L’Anse Twp., son to Arnie and Martha (Walitalo) Haanpaa. He graduated from L’Anse High School in 1972. He married Martha Reyes on May 4, 1974 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in L’Anse. Terry worked in the lab at Celotex and then the Tilden Mine. He was a supervisor in Alberta, worked at the Ojibwa Casino as a dealer and pit boss, and delivered newspapers to various businesses. He had a love for trapping; dealing at trapping conventions, fur buying, selling trapping supplies, and teaching youth how to trap. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and the outdoors in general. He also liked to go to the casino once in a while. Terry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Martha Haanpaa of Herman; daughter Laura Haanpaa of Herman; brother William (Pat) Haanpaa of Herman; sister Bernice Haapala of L’Anse; sister-in-law Connie (best friend and brother-in-law,Tom) LaForest of Brillion, WI; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Bobby and Dannie Haanpaa. Terry requested no visitation, a graveside service will be held in the spring in Herman Cemetery.
