Viola Mae (Teenie) Banuchie, age 78 of Ontonagon, MI passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at Marquette General Hospital with her family by her side.

Vi was born March 31, 1935 in Baraga, MI, daughter to Leo and Bertha (Nadeau) Durant. She was married to John Banuchie for 58 years and had 5 children, 13 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, whom she loved with ALL her heart.

Vi was known for her keen sense of humor, love of traveling, sewing, weaving and crocheting. She was an accomplished self-taught musician, playing guitar and piano. One of her favorite things to do was gather at the kitchen table to chat with visitors, play puzzles and cross-words and read romance novels.

Surviving are her children, John (Debbie) Banuchie of San Antonio, TX, Mary Banuchie of Traverse City, Brenda (Randy) Jackman of Ontonagon, Bruce Banuchie of Baraga, and Tina (Bruce) Fox of Charlotte, MI; brothers, Leo Durant Jr and Melvin Durant, sisters Julia Cardinal and Catherine Sandquist all of Baraga; 12 grandchildren and 3 great-granddaughters.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband John Banuchie; brother Dominic Durant; sisters Leona Bolo and Martha Roy; and grandson Paul Anttila.

Services will be held on Monday, December 9, 2013 at the Ojibwa Senior Center at 208 Main St in Baraga. Visitation will be held from 12-2PM in the Ceremonial Room, with the funeral service at 2PM. A luncheon will follow immediately after. The Jacobson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
